Buffalo Biodiesel Inc. (BBD), a national leader in the recovery and processing of used cooking oil (UCO), has announced the launch of its collection operations in Tennessee. This strategic expansion comes immediately after the company received its Part 360 solid waste management permit from the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYS DEC) for its primary processing facility in Tonawanda, New York. The timing underscores a deliberate growth strategy: securing core processing infrastructure before accelerating into new high-yield markets.
The Part 360 permit provides the long-term operational framework for the Tonawanda site, which is permitted with a designed capacity of 300,000 gallons per week. With this authorization in place, Buffalo Biodiesel is now moving aggressively to expand its national logistics network. The company plans to establish a satellite collection hub in Knoxville before the end of the year, a move that will anchor its routing operations across Tennessee.
“Now that operations for our Tonawanda facility are secure, we are rolling out on our expansion,” said Frank V. Balon, President and Chief Legal Officer of Buffalo Biodiesel Inc. “Tennessee is a major UCO producer, and we plan on setting up a satellite collection hub in Knoxville before year’s end.”
The significance of this expansion lies in its implications for the broader renewable energy supply chain. By scaling its footprint into major production regions, Buffalo Biodiesel ensures a consistent, high-volume supply of critical feedstock destined for advanced biofuel and renewable diesel refinement. Tennessee’s robust food service industry generates substantial volumes of used cooking oil, making it a prime target for collection. The Knoxville hub will streamline the capture and transport of UCO, enabling efficient statewide service over the next two years.
This targeted rollout reflects the company’s broader initiative to rapidly expand its closed-loop industrial supply chain, diverting waste from local landfills and supporting carbon-neutral energy solutions on a national scale. As demand for renewable diesel and sustainable aviation fuel grows, securing reliable feedstock sources becomes paramount. Buffalo Biodiesel’s move into Tennessee not only strengthens its own supply network but also contributes to reducing landfill waste and lowering carbon emissions associated with waste disposal.
